JACKSON PREP EQUESTRIAN TEAM AND PROGRAM
Jackson Prep's Equestrian Team and Program was founded in 2014, and is the first Interscholastic Equestrian Team (IEA) and Middle and High School Equestrian Program in Mississippi. The Program is open to equestrian athletes in grades 6-12, and to both female and male students. Equestrian sports are one of the few sports that boys and girls participate on the same team and use the same rules.
The Jackson Prep Equestrian Team competes within IEA Region 4 in Hunt Seat Equitation (English) flat and over-fences competition, and competes against other teams from Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, and South Carolina. Students are also given the opportunity to participate in local and regional horse shows. The team is based and trains at Providence Hill Farm during the September through April show schedule. Team members are required to practice with the team every week and to travel to the team competitions. For more information on the IEA Program, visit their website at www.rideiea.org and for more information on Providence Hill Farm, visit their website at www.providencehillfarm.com.
In addition to the Jackson Prep Equestrian Team, Jackson Prep honors its other equestrian athletes who participate in the High School Equestrian Athlete Program sponsored by the United States Equestrian Federation. Students who register for, document their training and competition involvement with, and receive a Certificate of Achievement from the USEF, may also submit the documentation to the Athletic Department at Jackson Prep and receive recognition from Jackson Prep as participating in a Jackson Prep varsity athletic program. Students who achieve a Certificate of Achievement from the USEF for all four (4) years of high school will receive recognition as a Jackson Prep Varsity Letterman. For more information on the USEF High School Equestrian Athlete Program, visit their website at www.usef.org/lettering/.
Whether competing through the Jackson Prep Equestrian Team, or as an individual athlete under the USEF High School Equestrian Athlete Program, all Jackson Equestrian Athletes have the opportunity to receive a Varsity Athletic Letter from Jackson Prep.
